ABOUT
Brunello Stancioli holds a degree in Law from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (1996), where he also completed his master’s (2000) and doctoral (2007) studies. He was an Academic Visitor at the Uehiro Centre for Practical Ethics (Faculty of Philosophy) at the University of Oxford (May 2011 to March 2012), supported by a CAPES scholarship, where he studied Human Enhancements and Law. He was a Resident Professor at the IEAT (Institute of Transdisciplinary Advanced Studies) at UFMG in 2022. He is a member of the Permanent Faculty of the Graduate Program in Law at UFMG and also serves as a member of the Permanent Faculty of the Graduate Program in Technological Innovation at UFMG. He has been a collaborating professor in the graduate program in philosophy at UFMG, focusing on ethics. He was a member of the Council for Teaching, Research, and Extension (CEPE) at UFMG and of the Coordination for Technology Transfer and Innovation (CTIT) at UFMG, representing the Humanities area. He served as a member of the Research Ethics Committee involving Human Beings at UFMG for three years. He coordinates the Persona Group, which studies the person and personhood in all its nuances from a transdisciplinary perspective. He is the scientific director of the Brazilian Society of Bioethics, Minas Gerais branch. Currently (2024), he studies ethics and law regarding genetic and morphological modifications in humans, human enhancements, human-machine fusion (the ethics of hybrids and cyborgs), and body modifications (aesthetic, artistic, sports, hormonal, etc.), as well as Animals and Law. He coordinates the implementation of the international chair of bioethics at the Institute of Advanced Studies at UFMG. He has published articles and books nationally and internationally. He has experience in teaching and research in Law, with a transdisciplinary focus. His interests and studies include the following themes: Natural Person, Bioethics, Law and Genetics, Law and Information Theory, Autonomy, Human Enhancements, and Individual Freedoms.
