ABOUT
PhD in Law from Goethe Universität – Frankfurt am Main, Master in Law from Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina and Bachelor in Law from Universidade Estadual Paulista. Awarded with the WISAG-Preis 2022 for the best thesis in the area of regional integration. She was a visiting researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Public International Law (Heidelberg, Germany) and at iCourts – Center of Excellence for International Courts and Governance (Copenhagen, Denmark). She researches and advises in the areas of human rights, international law and comparative law, with a focus on indigenous issues.

Professor of Civil Law at the Federal University of Minas Gerais. Permanent Faculty Member of the Postgraduate Program in Law at the Federal University of Minas Gerais. Holds a Ph.D. in Law from the Federal University of Minas Gerais, with a research period at the University of Birmingham. Obtained a Master’s degree in Private Law from the Pontifical Catholic University of Minas Gerais and a Bachelor’s degree in Law from the Federal University of Ouro Preto.
Completed a postdoctoral research residency in Law at the Federal University of Minas Gerais, funded by CNPq, as part of the project “Bioethics, Distributive Justice, and Pandemics.”
His research focuses on the following areas: Civil Law, Biolaw.

He has experience in highly complex criminal cases, both as a lawyer and as a reviewer. He has published legal books in Brazil and Argentina and articles in academic journals in Latin America and Europe. He has given conferences and lectures in more than 30 Brazilian cities. Thomas Bustamante has a Law Degree from the Federal University of Juiz de Fora (2000), a Research Master Degree from the State University of Rio de Janeiro (2003), and a PhD from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (2007), with a research period at the University of Edinburgh, UK, with a CAPES scholarship. He is currently Professor at the Federal University of Minas Gerais, where he has been Head of the Program of Research Studies (Masters and PhD) in Law, from 2019 to 2021. Previously, he has been Lecturer at the University of Aberdeen, UK, from 2008 to 2010, and at the Federal University of Juiz de Fora (2004 to 2008). He has coordinated research projects financed by the CNPQ, FAPEMIG, CAPES Foundation, and the National Council of Justice. He is a senior research productivity fellow of CNPq. He has been funded by the Minas Gerais Scholar Program of FAPEMIG. He has made funded research visits (Fellowships) at the University of São Paulo (2015-2016), with a grant from FAPESP Foundation, New York University, as a Global Research Fellow funded by the Fulbright Commission (USA) program of Visiting Scholars (2020-2021), and at King’s College London (UK) (2021-2022) with funding from the CAPES Foundation. He has experience in Law, with emphasis on Legal Philosophy, but also in Legal Theory, Political Philosophy, Moral Philosophy, Theories of Legal Argumentation, Legal Hermeneutics and Constitutional Law.

ABOUT
Rubia Neves holds a Ph.D. and a Master’s degree in Commercial Law from the Federal University of Minas Gerais. She has experience with the regulation of financial and capital markets. She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses on New Frontiers of the National Financial System. She is interested in understanding whether the purposes of regulating the National Financial System (SFN) align with the applicable constitutional provisions and whether they are in harmony with the public and private legal frameworks established to achieve the identified objectives. Her research focuses on: a) the entities that collect, broker and invest financial resources, as well as hold custody of assets owned by third parties, such as financial institutions, payment institutions, investment funds, members of the securities distribution system, their assistants and other agents; b) the acts and legal transactions, including contracts, credit instruments governed by Foreign Exchange Law and those subject to the rules of the Brazilian Payment System, securities and tokens used in the professional practice of financial transactions within the National and International Financial System; c) official currencies in paper, metallic, scriptural, electronic, and digital forms, as well as credits and credit rights; d) state regulation and self-regulation of agents, objects used and activities performed in these systems.
