O Ramo Brasileiro da International Law Association e o Programa de Pós Graduação em Direito da Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (CAPEs 7), em parceria com o Stylus Curiarum – Grupo de Pesquisa em Cortes e Tribunais Internacionais tem a satisfação de convidar todos os seus membros e a comunidade acadêmica para a ILA Brasil MasterClass 2024 intitulada “The Request for an Advisory Opinion of the International Court of Justice on Climate Change: Continuity and Evolution” com a professora Laurence Boisson de Chazournes, da Université de Genève. O debatedor será o professor Lucas Carlos Lima, Diretor de Estudos da ILA-Brasil.

A Professora Laurence Boisson de Chazournes irá oferecer as perspectivas atuais do atual pedido de opinião consultiva perante a Corte Internacional de Justiça envolvendo as obrigações relativas às mudanças climáticas e diversos aspectos materiais e procedimentais de um dos mais importantes processos consultivos da história da Corte. Em sua aula, que será seguida de um debate, serão discutidas tanto as oportunidades quanto os desafios que o procedimento trará para a Corte da Haia em seu parecer.

Laurence Boisson de Chazournes é Professora de Direito Internacional na Faculdade de Direito da Universidade de Genebra e Diretora do LL.M. em Resolução de Litígios Internacionais (MIDS). Possui uma vasta experiência prática no domínio da resolução de litígios internacionais. Foi consultora e advogada perante a Corte Internacional de Justiça (TIJ), no Tribunal Internacional do Direito do Mar (ITLOS) e noutros tribunais internacionais. Tem actuado como árbitro presidente, árbitro único ou árbitro nomeado (nomeado pelos requerentes e pelos requeridos) em processos de arbitragem comercial e de investimento, em processos de inspeção pré-embarque na OMC e noutras formas de arbitragem (como a arbitragem desportiva). É também uma profissional reconhecida pelo seu papel de consultora de muitas organizações internacionais, Estados e entidades não estatais, públicas e privadas. As suas áreas de especialização incluem, entre outras, questões energéticas e ambientais, gestão de recursos naturais, questões fiscais, marítimas e desportivas, investimento e direito internacional público. Os seus escritos e a sua prática abrangem vários domínios, tais como o direito económico internacional (comércio, investimento e direito comercial), a resolução de litígios internacionais, o direito ambiental internacional, o direito das organizações internacionais, as fronteiras e o direito do mar.

The Brazilian Branch of the International Law Association and the Graduate Program in Law at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (CAPEs 7), in partnership with Stylus Curiarum – Research Group on International Courts and Tribunals, are pleased to invite all their members and the academic community to the ILA Brazil MasterClass 2024 entitled “The Request for an Advisory Opinion of the International Court of Justice on Climate Change: Continuity and Evolution” with Professor Laurence Boisson de Chazournes, from the Université de Genève. The discussant will be Professor Lucas Carlos Lima, Director of Studies at ILA-Brazil.

Professor Laurence Boisson de Chazournes will offer current perspectives on the request for an advisory opinion before the International Court of Justice involving climate change obligations and various material and procedural aspects of one of the most important advisory processes in the Court’s history. In her lecture, which will be followed by a debate, both the opportunities and the challenges that the procedure will bring to the Hague Court in its opinion will be discussed.

Lurence Boisson de Chazournes is a Professor of international law at the University of Geneva Faculty of Law and the Director of the LL.M. in International Dispute Settlement (MIDS).  She has extensive practical experience in the field of international dispute settlement. She has served as counsel and advocate before the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) and other international tribunals. She has acted as presiding arbitrator, sole arbitrator or wing arbitrator (appointed by claimants and respondents) in investment and commercial arbitration proceedings, in pre-shipment inspection cases at the WTO and in other forms of arbitration (such as sports arbitration). She is also a recognized practitioner for her role as an advisor to many international organisations, states, and non-state entities both public and private. Her areas of specialization include, inter alia, energy and environmental issues, natural resources management, tax, maritime and sport issues, investment and public international law. Her writings and practice cover various fields such as international economic law (trade, investment and commercial law), international dispute settlement, international environmental law, the law of international organizations, boundaries and law of the sea.
